Walking Meditation

Up to this point, all of the meditations have been completed in a restful position, either sitting or laying down. However, the sensations that accompany movement can also be the source of mindful attention.

In this session, you will become mindful of the sensations of walking. Usually, walking is an automatic process, ensuing without much conscious attention. Here, you will become aware of the sensations that typically go unnoticed: for example, your feet lifting off and landing on the ground.

Call to Practice: Try this guided walking meditation.

Since we walk everyday, the practice of meditating on the sensations of walking can be a useful way to integrate meditation into everyday life. Even for a short walk to the kitchen for a snack, the few steps that you take can serve as an opportunity for mindfulness.

Try incorporating mindfulness into other everyday activities as well. As you type on a keyboard or wash the dishes, become more attuned to the sensations you feel during the process.

This concludes the final meditative practice. Congratulations on making it this far! If you'd like to read more about mindfulness meditation, check out the blog linked here.
